The leaves are turning color and the temp's are dropping. The boats are coming out and most will be turning their attention away from the lake until spring, but if you're like me, you'll be longing for spring and the opportunity to get back on the water all winter long.
We at KLYC are hoping many of you saw the regattas this past summer and are thinking about getting that old sailboat out from under the porch or out of the garage, and joining the sailboat regattas next year. They are open to everyone and all skill levels. They are really fun and a great way to make new friends.
So what are you waiting for - next spring? Here are a few ideas for you to consider:
1) Check out that old boat of yours and see if it needs a little TLC. Chances are, it can easily and inexpensively be put back into sailing condition. Did you know there are people on the lake who will help you assess what may be needed and provide an estimate and list of resources ranging from buying a block to major fiberglass repair?
2) Start reading about sailing basics. There are many great books and websites out there. Focus on small boat sailing and pick up (or brush up) on the fundamentals now so you are ready to go next spring. With relatively little instruction you will learn how to rig your boat, stay safe, stay upright and get back to your dock with ease.
We are here to help, don't hesitate to ask.
